Where sunflower seeds come from?

Sunflower seeds are the fruits of sunflowers. Sunflower belongs to the genus Asteraceae. It is an annual herb. Alias sunflower, also known as Passiflora, Zhangju, Yingyanghua in ancient Chinese books, is called sun flower in Europe, and some countries are called sun grass, turn lotus, morning sun and so on. Sunflower is native to the southwestern part of North America. It is a wild species that has been cultivated and viewed all over the world. It was introduced to Europe in the early 16th century.

China has cultivated sunflower for at least four hundred years. In the past two decades, sunflower seed production has developed rapidly. The world's sunflower seed production has become an important oil after soybean, and it is widely cultivated in China.

There are different names for the names of sunflower seeds. For example, Anhui Lingbi called sunflower seeds as a lotus seed. It may be that sunflowers change with the sun and their shape is very similar to lotus. In Mongolian, it is called "naren flower", meaning sun flower. Many Mongolian compatriots’ names are taken as “Nen Ren Hua”.
